351 WINDOR IN A SKI BOAT OR IN A JACKED UP 94 TOYOTA MINI PICKUP?

My sterdrive on boat went out should I drop the motor in my lil 1994 toyota pickup whick is very sharp that needs a motor cuz my lil 4 banger took a dump.. Whats cooler guys come on get back at me I need a push.

The 351 would be very difficult to put in a Toyota. A Chevy Small Block would be easier, and there are kits available.

To put a V8 in the Toyota, you’ll also need a new transmission, transfer case (assuming 4WD) and axles. An easier swap is a VW turbo diesel, using an adapter from ACME.

Soft Surfboards – Choosing a Softboard Surfboard, the best surfboard for beginners

Purchasing your first surfboard can be a confusing experience.

What sort of board do I buy?

How much should I spend?

Soft or Hard?

The choices are endless! With well over half a century of surfboard development behind us, surfing technology has come a long way. Modern surfboards make learning to surf a much more pleasurable experience. Beginners Surfboards these days are lighter, safer and tougher than their ancestors.

The Soft Board

Soft Boards are the most popular type of beginner Surfboard and with good reason too. They are extremely buoyant so paddling is easy as it gets. Soft Surfboards have increased buoyancy, grip and stability to that of a regular fibreglass board. Their length is usually between 7 & 10 feet, this is due to the simple fact that the larger the board is the easier it is to balance.

The soft, rubber-like material that makes up the top surface of the surfboard gives it a great deal of stability. The foam material will hold up to the toughest of treatment. At the same time it’s safe enough that if you lose your board into a crowd of swimmers, you won’t go hurting anyone. The Base of the board consists of a smooth, yet still soft skin. It is this skin that reduces friction with the surface of the water and allows you to glide with some of the speed of a fibreglass board.

What height Surfboard should I buy?

If you are looking at getting a Surfboard then length will be something to consider. Most people will learn on a board that is a few feet longer than them. Just remember, the longer the board the more stability you will have. If you are a heavier person then perhaps something a little thicker than normal would be a good idea. New or Used?

The answer to this will largely depend on your budget. Something else to take into consideration is how often you will be using the board. Someone who uses it regularly is going to progress faster and will outgrow a soft surfboard very quickly. Should I get lessons?

To put it simply, YES! Just because you have friends that surf doesn’t mean that they are good surf instructors. Surfing is an individual thing, you need to learn a few basic techniques and skill first but once you have them down you can begin to refine it into your own and unique style. So go and get yourself a proper lesson and have an instructor teach you those all important basics. Having a good quality instructional DVD or book is also a handy thing to have around.

An instructor will also take you through all the safety procedures. Things like, where is it safe to surf? And how to spot a rip or undertow? These are incredibly important things to know. An instructor will also teach you the rules of the surf. When surfing, there is a globally recognised set of rules that governs who has “right of way” in different situations. Learning these rules is a must if you want to survive in the crowds.

The most important thing to remember when learning to surf is “be patient”. Surfing is a tricky sport to get the hang of. This boardshort speaks to me because it is a solid technical boardshort. Surprisingly – there are not that many of these out in the surf trunk world. It is made from an eco friendly – recycled performance stretch fabric. It has tons of give and is just dying to do tons of water time. I have found that stretch fabrics tend to have substantially less potential to chafe than non-stretch fabrics. This basically replaces the Cell series from Quiksilver and has a novel seam design to prove it. It is loaded with features such as a neoprene lined fly – a mesh lined welt cargo pocket with zipper – lycra under the hems and in the inseam rise – and even a silicone coated drawcord that won’t slip. This is a waterman’s boardshort.

Which wet suit should I buy for diving in New England 7mm or 5mm?

During the summer the temps where i five reach about 73 degrees which is plenty warm enough for 5mm and borderline for a 3mm, but the other three seasons I would really need a 7mm. I really dont want to buy two different $300 wetsuits, my question is is it ok for me to dive with a 7mm wetsuit in 73 degree water when a 7mm is designed for 60 degrees and below.

I dive the Great Lakes and St Lawrence, where the temps vary huge. I own a US divers semi dry two piece 7 mm. Great for all temps here from 36 F(both pieces) to 75 F as a farmer john. Yep, used it for ice diving and hauled it to the carib as a single in 80F, though a little warm but not unbearable.
I see that the answer below me recommends a thinner suit. Silly, you’ll go blue.
Your area can get below 50F easily in fall and spring, especially if you plan on freshwater diving in a lake. Absolute minimum would be a 5mm which would do in summer but really suck in the fall / spring and winter is out of the question. Not a chance. Even a 7mm semi , let alone a normal wetsuit,would be good for about 35 minutes tops in a lake there in fall/ spring and if you’re a deep diver you’ll be an ice cube because of the neo crushing paper thin under about 60 feet or more.
Friggin’ warm water divers always forget that little fact. No wonder they come here to die.

should i buy this surfboard?

i saw this surfboard on ebay and it looks sweeeettt as. i already have one surfboard, but its a gun and its really skinny and not very stable and im learning to surf at the moment so i wanted something just slighty more stable to help me get better.
even though i cant surf, its like my passion and i dont care how many times i fall off the board, nothings going to stop me learning!!
also i want it to be a surfboard that will last for agggeeeesss cos i dont want to buy another one. thats why i dont want a massive longboard.

Surf Machine Causes Whiplash Injury

Gwen Spurlock, a top young surfer was rushed to hospital shortly after using the new indoor surf machine at Swansea’s new £32 million leisure centre, the LC. Gwen Spurlock, the British junior surfing champion was using the machine at its media launch, when she fell off.

After the incident the 16 year old complained of persistent headaches and extensive, painful bruising. In hospital she was found to have swelling on the brain and whiplash injuries. In order to relieve the pressure on her brain and reduce the risk of brain damage, she underwent surgery.

In the operating room, two holes the size of 10p pieces were drilled into her skull in order to reduce the pressure on her brain. She has missed ten weeks of school as a result. As she is currently studying for her GCSE’s this is an unfortunate time for her to be missing so much school.

In another devastating blow, it now looks as if Miss Spurlock will miss the world championships in May. She was planning to travel to France at the end of May in order to take part in the prestigious event.

At the end of this month she will be back in hospital for a brain scan to monitor the results of her surgery.

Immediately after the incident, before going into hospital, Miss Spurlock commented on the website Surf Solutions on her experience of using the indoor surf machine at the leisure centre.

She stated that she fell off a number of times despite being an expert surfer, “which was funny at first but then became a bit painful – bruising and headaches are the consequences”

Unfortunately, her injuries turned out to be a little more than just bruising and headaches. Whiplash is a serious injury caused by hyperextension of the neck and the pain caused by it can last for weeks or even months. The swelling on her brain could have led to serious brain damage had she not sought medical attention.

The LC said that as a result of the incident they have introduced strict new regulations for people using the machine. Wetsuits and helmets are now compulsory and no more injuries have arisen as a result of using the machine.

The LC say that they have no record of any injury received by Miss Spurlock while at the leisure centre. Neither have they been contacted by Miss Spurlock or her family regarding the incident.

The leisure centre, which is run by Bay Leisure released this statement:

“We were made aware some weeks back, via a third party, that she had apparently experienced a ‘whiplash’ injury whilst on the surf rider and we immediately took extra safety precautions by making the use of additional protective equipment compulsory. We have not been approached by anyone representing Miss Spurlock on this matter and we were certainly not aware that she had been in hospital.”

Hopefully Miss Spurlock will have no lasting damage due to her injuries. The machine is one of only 50 worldwide and the centre hopes that it will be a major attraction for aspiring surfers. Boy Claims over Accident on Bouncy Castle

A boy who received injuries while playing on a bouncy castle at a neighbours party is suing his neighbours and his father over the injury. The accident happened 2 years ago when the boy was 11 years old.

Sam Harris was playing on the bouncy castle at his neighbours party when another partygoer, who at fifteen years old was much older, somersaulted onto the trampoline, catching Sam’s head with his heel.

As a result Sam suffered a fractured skull and “very serious and traumatic brain injury” according to his consul, Susan Rodway QC. He is seeking 1million in damages.

Sam, with his mother Janet Spalding, who was not present at the party, allege that Mr and Mrs Perry who held the party for their ten year old triplets were not paying enough attention to the children on the bouncy castle and are to blame for Sam’s injuries.

Miss Rodway said in the hearing that Mrs Perry was the only adult present and should have been watching at all times as accidents on bouncy castles are “eminently foreseeable” and anyone doing somersaults should have been stopped.

Sam claims that in addition to not paying due attention to proceedings on the bouncy castle, Mrs Perry gave him permission to go on the bouncy castle, despite his father saying that he could not go on.

Mr and Mrs Perry have said in court that Sam’s father, David Harris is to blame for the accident as he was present at the party and should have been keeping an eye on his son. Mrs Perry denies giving Sam permission to go on the bouncy castle, saying that she explicitly told him to keep away.

Mr Harris, speaking about the incident, stresses that he at no point acted in way which would put his son in danger.

“I regard myself as a responsible parent, at that time and at all times. My assumption was that two people were supervising the party and that it was safe in those circumstances. The problem only occurred at the moment the bigger boy acted irresponsibly. I feel I acted like any normal parent in assessing the risk in the situation.”

Graham Ekhand QC who is acting in defence of the Perry’s says that Sam, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2004, was inclined not to listen to instructions. He referred to school reports in which teachers pointed out his inability to follow simple instructions.

Mrs Perry said that despite meeting and talking with Miss Spalding, she was never made aware of the fact that Sam had Asperger’s syndrome.

The high court hearing is expected to last a further three or four days, despite Judge David Steel who is presiding over the case saying that he does not see the relevance of Sam’s condition and is concerned at the legal fees being “thrown away” in pursuing the case.

Salt Pond Beach Park is located near Hanapepe on Kauai’s Westside. The area was named for the traditional Hawaiian sea salt produced in pools located near the beach. For many generations during summer months, Hawaiian families have dug out pans from the red soil to evaporate seawater and produce natural sea salt. After the salt is produced it is bagged and used not for cooking. The natural sea salt is also used for an Epsom salt-like medicine, offered plain or mixed with red clay. Even now, traditional Hawaiian salt is still available at some markets on the island.

When you visit Salt Pond Beach Park, you may see some families at work in their saltpans. The knowledge and skill is handed down from generation to generation, and the art is practiced with pride. Observing these people as they work, you’ll get a real feel for the traditional lifestyle of families. In addition to this charming glimpse of island living, Salt Pond Beach Park offers gentle waves rolling in year-round, making it a popular destination for family outings. Young body surfers love the gentle rolling waves, and snorkelers will find clear water at each end of the crescent beach.

Snorkeling Safety Tips:

* Mornings are the best time to snorkel, as are calm, clear waters.

* Never snorkel alone; always snorkel in areas where there are other snorkelers and swimmers.

* Do not snorkel if the water is rough, choppy or unclear.

* Do not snorkel near surfers or body surfers.

* Scan the area outside of the water periodically to keep your bearing. This easy precaution will keep you from drifting off course by mistake.

* Do not feed the fish under any circumstances, as it fouls the water and sickens the fish, making them susceptible to predators.

* If you want to attract fish, bring along a zip lock bag. Put a coloured object like a leaf in the bag, fill it with water, and let it float near you. You’d be surprised at how many curious fish will swim up to inspect the bag.

* Protect Kauai’s reefs. Coral reefs are marvelous ecosystems that take thousands of years to develop but only seconds to destroy. Float over shallow reefs, but never walk on them. Instead of standing on a coral reef, paddle to a sandy spot.

* Sea turtles and monk seals should be admired from a distance. The Endangered Species Act protects both the monk seal and the Pacific green sea turtle. It is illegal to harm or harass these creatures in any way, including touching. Law officials in Hawaii strictly enforce these rules. If you are fortunate enough to spot one of these rare creatures in the water, enjoy them from a respectful distance.

* Always check to ensure local conditions are safe before entering the sea. Storm surges and high surf can be very dangerous wherever they occur. Talk to local residents, listen to weather forecasts and choose your snorkel location accordingly.
